Good win, overcoming: 1) a team playing for sole possession of first place, 2) two double plays (routine one turned well by Bixler and a shoestring catch in RC that no one expected), 3) a really good ringer in RC who hit two hard 5-6 balls that went for homers and a bomb to dead center for a third.
After Gasp had tied the game and we had made two quick outs, Trena had the hit of the game, a soul-crushing triple dead over the RF that the fast RC dove for but missed.
Aaron went on contact on Trena's grounder in the first, putting just a little more pressure on the D to maybe cause them to rush the throw.
Mark in LF caught 3 balls that normally fall for hits. Mike struck out two batters in the 5th (4th?). Brad and Chet were solid at SS and 3B.

Rich spectated, still injured from the previous game
Great D by Stephen at SS, who backhanded a few deep in 5-6 and threw hard in time every time, Chet at 3B, and Mike at 1B who caught the low hard ones and scooped the short hopper from Stephen to end the game.
Chet came despite having a slightly sick kid and possibly being sick himself. We would have lost without any
Annie hit a sharp ball toward SS in the first that Stephen tried to hurdle but couldn't clear. That was payback for the top of the 1st, when Trevor Friedman or Chris Green nailed Devin running from 2B, though he had gotten a generous call on a potential force the play before.

Joe arrived at the start of the game, allowing the team to field 9. Mark arrived during the bottom, getting us to 10, but then Rich pulled himself after hurting his hamstring in the 4th, pushing us back to 9.
With the bases loaded and 1 out in the 1st, Mark hit a low liner that the OF dropped. However, Dave on 2B thought the ball was caught so refused to leave the base despite a good shove from Joe and was forced out. Mark on 1B didn't see Joe stuck on 2B so ran to within 3 feet of him before retreating to 1B. Joe helped Mark not get run down by faking toward 3B and drawing enough attention.
Umpire Bob declared that the game would have gone 1 more inning had Dave gotten up, but he singled nicely to run out the clock.

Only 8 players at game time. Carolyn cancelled during the day but emailed Richard instead of Rich. Mark arrived in the first. NGNL started with 9, with their 10th arriving in the first. Mike Stetson pitched.
Rich wore new cleats, which perhaps helped him beat out a gorunder to third in the first inning, though Bob had jokingly warned, "Watch it - he has new cleats - he's faster now."
Key defensive play was with two on and two out in the third, Brad threw out the #2 batter to end the inning, which also meant Tony batted with no one on the next inning. In the 5th with time running out, the #2 batter took a deliberate out despite having runners on to be sure to play another inning.
Carolyn pinch-ran for Dave in the 2nd and stepped too far toward 3rd on Rich's hard liner to the excellent 2B, who fired to Salazar for the DP.
In the 4th, Brad went first to third on Aaron's single to LC, but when the throw got past two infielders, both runners tried to advance, one successfully.

Rich had another big hit, this to tie the game in the 5th, but the biggest belonged to Tony, who hit a line drive to RC that knuckled and dropped for our final 2 runs of the day.
In the bottom of the 6th, Tony Greicius led off with a homer / legit single (or double given our depth), but we shut them out after that: Aaron in LC threw out Hernandez stretching a single into a double, Richard in RC caught the big lefty's liner that stayed up, and Mike at P caught the next lefty's liner up the middle.

This was TMITITW's first game since their SS Eddie Rivas passed away. His family showed up before the game, spoke to their team, and may have handed out shirts. He was a good guy, positive. No one outside his family knew he was sick, and he had played well against us even in the final game last season in October.
Rich hit a solid game-winner to score Chet from 2B, but everyone contributed that inning. Even the outs came from good defensive plays.
Aaron bombed one over the fence - woo hoo!
Chet played good 3B, perhaps 4-for-4 in chances, including charging two short infield pop-ups that often frustratingly fall for hits.
Brad had a great day at SS, the best play being a stretch to his left and solid throw to end the 4th.

Down 7, 2 on, 2 out, none in, Chet had the hit of the game with a solid double, the first of 9 straight to reach safely.
Trena had two huge hits: a 2-out single to drive in 2, and the final RBI of the 9-run inning.
Aaron's triple (to RCF?) put us ahead for good.
Brad fielded solidly at SS.
