This season saw the first B League protest since 1989 or so, just before I joined JPL full-time. I'll characterize the protesting manager's actions as finding a gap between the written rules and a longstanding practice and exploiting it to his advantage instead of rectifying it equitably. Then after losing the first vote, he exploited a poorly written email to get a second vote, which he won. And the unwritten rule was a fair, fairly applied, and in my opinion superior rule that prevented games from running late and was unknowingly never written down.

(I should protest that the will of the first vote was clear, but how destructively competitve would you have to be to pull sh*t like that?)

Having only 7 at game time, we gave up home field again. Mitch and Josh showed up late. Steve cancelled at 4:45.
This was the 3rd place game.

Gasp played us deep, and we kept hitting easy flies to them.
Only 8 Sharks at the end of the grace period, so we batted first.
Tarren left early. Chris stuck around unexpectedly.

This game was played immediately after the resumption of the Scared Hitless game, which was an emotionally charged game. Fortunately, our D bailed us out. That, plus 2 homers over the LF fence by Brad and Chris, and 1 to deep center from Josh.

The #3 batter on NGNL may have hit 5 hard balls up the middle for home runs.
Sharks on D gave up a ton of extra bases but didn't give up many outs. Annie made a nice catch of a sinking liner to end the 4th.
Rich, Richard, and Josh had perfect days at the plate, and Mitch and Annie were almost there. Richard's homer was a low liner to CF while Brad's was a high shot just over the fence.
Brad owes Richard his first hit. With Rich and Richard on 2nd and 3rd, the SS short-hopped a hard hit from Brad, but Richard got into a rundown and got to third safely.

With 1 out and 1 on in the second, the Gasp batter hit a line drive to Josh in LC that Richard yelled "Back" on, though it landed in front of Josh and scooted by. Josh hustled to retrieve the ball and threw to Brad, who came 30 feet into the outfield for the relay, which he threw perfectly to Mike covering home to get the batter by 10 feet.
Mike ended the 5th by spearing a hard low liner to his right.
With runners on 1st and 2nd, a Gasp hit a hard line drive to Steve's left, which Brad fielded and threw for the force at 3B to Steve, who called for it and hustled back.
Jay in RF had a nice running catch to his right on his only chance of the day.
Richard's homer was a hard line drive to RF that also sliced toward the line. Richard also got to break up a double play in the 6th by upending Tom Cresto. Brad's triple was a hard line drive between LF and LC.
Pretty good offensive production despite two double plays (1st and 4th) and another baserunning out.

Thanks to the new emphasis on playing at least 1:10, we got to bat 6 times each. Umpire Tom said "5 minutes left" before the top of the 6th (5th?). Next game started late.

Brad at SS got the last out of the first inning with a backhand on a short hop with two runners on. He again assisted 6-3 on the last out of the third with the bases loaded and many runs in.
Both Angel and Josh went 6-for-6, which raised Josh's batting average from 0.286 to 0.615. Josh drove in 8, which may have a precedent, but I suspect Angel's 6 runs scored is a Shark record, and this was a good opponent.
Mike's homer was a solid liner to RC, Angel's was a bouncer past the tree in CF, and Josh's was a blast over the fence to dead left. Angel also had a hard hit triple that probably should have been a double.

Play of the game: with 2 outs and runs in and runners on base in the 5th (?), the bullish #3 batter for Kaos, who had homered to dead center earlier in the game, ripped a liner up the middle that Mike fortunately caught in the webbing of his glove.
With Steve Guzman batting in the 6th, umpire Tom called "Last batter of the game, regardless of what he does..." or something long like that. Steve then uncharacteristically tried to pop the ball over the fence and lined out. Ignored for stats.
Angel's homer, a line drive to dead left over the fence, gave us a good margin.

Hitless got the tying run to 2nd and the go-ahead run to 1st in the top of the last inning with the monster hitter on deck. However, the batter popped up.
Umpire Tom then called 1 minute left and asked Sharks if we wanted to bat. We did. Both Mitch and Araceli got on safely, so Tom called, "Last batter." Earl swung for the fences and popped out to left. Both runners jogged off on contact, while enough of the Hitless players threw the ball around to force both runners out. Slim then protested the game, saying that "last batter" meant that if they got out of the inning on that batter, they would get to bat. Hmmmm... I'm skipping Earl's out above since he treated it as irrelevant, as all of us felt.
The 3rd batter for Hitless simply crushed a line drive home run to left that maybe got 20 feet off the ground, then one with more arc to LC, then drilled one that bounced just in front of Josh in LC and got by him for a triple. Richard, backing up the play, collided hard with Josh when trying to pick up the ball, but fortunately the collision was chest-to-shoulder.
Rich's triple, a line drive to right that the RF broke in on, stopped, then slipped and fell, was the key hit of the game, finally tying the game.
No Round Table - Richard was very eager to see his kid.

RESUMPTION, June 2

The game resumed with 5 minutes left, but we could nor run out the clock. Fortunately, Chris, Joe, and Steve got big hits to cash in our runners and more and give us a decent margin. Brad then crushed a hard one-hopper to Steven Hu at 3B, who took it off the body but still got Brad out.
With 1 out, Brad at SS speared a hot shot up the middle and almost doubled off the runner at first, but his throw was up the line. Great play, nearly excellent. Last out was a Kc.
The beastly number 3 batter Dan something led off and hit another ball over the fence for his 3rd homer of the game.
Dave Hansen came to cheer us on. Jerry Clark came to ensure the peace, probably.

Sellecks played 9 men, 4 women. Steve Broberg put two off the fence, one over. Massey hit two over, one which landed on the far side of the roof of the gym. Paul Lytal hit a bomb that landed near SS of the opposite field.
Eric Massey test drove a friend's Tesla and thinks he can arrange for anyone else to do so if interested.
Mike homered to deeeep right. Richard tripled down the LF line and off the glove of RC. Josh tripled off the fence in LC.
Steve remains on fire, no outs yet this year.
