- Sonny led off the Marinators' offense with a home run onto the blacktop.
Gene put one over Annie in RC for a homer later in the game. Angel's
triple was a rocket to left center.
- Marinators has 10 men, 1 women, so took an out every time though the
order and played 9 on D.
- Two outfield assists: Angel in LF to Brad at 3B to get Ted Sweetser,
and Tom in RF to Frank covering 2B to get the big lefty trying to stretch
a hit into a double.
- Becky caught another twisting foul pop-up in the 2nd, as she did last
week.
- Steve caught a good liner up the middle to end the 4th as the Marinators
came close to taking the lead.

- Earl struck out the first batter, walked the next, then had no more
of either.
- Joe, Earl, Brad, and Mitch all bounced balls onto the blacktop. Angel
put one deep onto the blacktop in LC, as did the Caltech 3B Ted Betley,
who also burned
Richard in RF. The Caltech 1B (Jacob Berlin) also reached blacktop.
- Richard in RF gunned one to Becky at C in the 2nd, surprising her so that
she tried to catch the ball with her right hand. Becky later had a good,
over-the-shoulder catch of a pop-up to end the 4th.
- On Richard's comebacker, the P checked Earl then threw into the baseline,
so Richard crashed chest first into the 1B.
- With Richard on second in the 6th, Greg grounded one deep into the 5-6
hole. As the 3B fielded the ball, Richard went half-speed toward third,
then full-speed when the 3B came at him. The 3B then stopped and threw
wildly to first. Angel later singled to finally put the Sharks on top
for the first time.
- Frank arrived at 6:50, Angel a few minutes later, Mitch even later.

- With 2 out in the 2nd, Rich took the count to 3-2 and drove the ball
to right-center, scoring two including Tom from first, easily.
- Richard's home run went to dead center. Frank had the biggest
hit of the night, the 2-out, bases loaded drive to center to score 2.
Annie then smoked one over 1B to tie the game momentarily.
- Richard laid out for a ball on Brian Martin's looper in the 4th, but
Tom and later Richard missed on other dives. Mario had a ton of balls
hit to him at 2B and converted all but 2. Mitch speared two rockets.
Frank was solid but for a throw from deep in the 5-6 hole off Scaff.
- Scaff pitched well but gave way to Brian in the last inning.
- No shows: Greg and Earl (vacation), Deb (rib),
Joe (family), Brad (travel), Angel (guests).
Failed subs: Linda Rios, Holly Schmidt, Joe Jacob, Dave Werntz,
Rich Orozco, Chris Jones (busy), Tony Ganino, Pete Jones (vacation).
Time spent rounding up subs: ~2 hours, maybe 15 interruptions.

- Mario paid up on his beer even though he was a last-minute substitution.
Deb again hurt her ribs on her first swing and did not
swing again.
- Greg hit the ball very hard his first two times up but ended up with
nothing. Frank's triple died along the fence in LC, but he slipped
coming around 2nd and trotted into 3rd. Rich's home run beat the RCF,
and Richard's triple beat the LF.
- Last inning: Emily at 1B could not hold onto a low throw on Frank's
grounder, keeping the inning alive. Greg took a 3-pitch walk, then Rich
blooped a double to RC to score 3. In the bottom half, Deb dropped a
soft liner to her right, Steve walked Toby, more stuff, Earl at 3B
fielded a sharp grounder but threw low and away to Rich for an error,
Matt Lievense tied the game on a sac fly to right, Marcus popped up,
then Mac won the game on a clean hit to center with two outs.
- Richard-Steve got another 10-1 play, this time on Toby. Ken Lawrence
toasted Richard in the first for a triple. Barron hit a two-run blast
onto the blacktop.

- Rusty put a ball deep onto the blacktop in the first for a two-run
home run. Tom in RF had a nice catch behind Mitch despite no
communication between the two.
- The Maulers' last good threat came in the second when they loaded
the bases with one out. Ben then hit a hard grounder right at Brad,
who stepped on 3rd and threw to first for the double play.
- Deb may have pulled a muscle around the ribs in the 1st on an
awkward swing, after which she did not swing the bat again, preferable
to the team's taking an automatic out in her slot. Defensively, she
struggled to lift her arms on a pop-up in the third, allowing the
batter to get on. However, on the next play, Steve knocked down a
grounder, threw to Frank covering 2B, who relayed to Rich for the DP.
- One last double play: Tony smoked a one-hopper right at Steve's
feet. Steve somehow speared it to start another 1-6-3.
- Thanks to Greg for sacrificing his stats and ending the game with
a sure sacrifice fly to put the Sharks up 15 in the 5th.
- Tom paid up on an old pitcher. Annie, Mario, Michael, Stephen,
Rich, and Richard stuck around to catch Richard's 30 seconds of fame.
Tom, Greg, Nancy, Samantha, Steve, Frank, and Joe promised to catch
it at home. Best wishes to Joe's wife Christina, who's got
something not good going on.

- In the third with runners on first and second and one out, Joe
fielded a hard hit one-hopper from the last batter and threw to 2nd
for the force after deciding what to do. Steve covered 1st and got
the putout after the confused batter stopped short of first.
- Steve struck out 4 batters.
- In left field, Angel made an over-the-shoulder catch in the first,
then Richard made a twisting catch in the fifth for the first out
of the inning after Steve served up meat to get Richard some work.
- In LC, Greg overran a deep ball in the fifth but earlier caught
a tough low liner.
- Frank's triple (and Richard's double) burned the LC, who was
playing in the rover position. Mitch crushed his triple onto the
blacktop in LC. Richard's home run hit the base of the fence
in right-center and gave the Sharks a comfortable margin.
- Deb paid up on a pitcher for her K(s), and Steve paid up for something
else. Enjoying were Tom, Greg, Rich, Frank, Anne, Mario, Michael, Steven,
Mitch, Joe, Steve, Earl, Richard.

- Baserunning: in the 2nd, Angel, running for Rich, ran up on Greg, who
fortunately scored. In the 4th after Greg and Angel singled, Rich hit a
ball to right that the runners held for. Greg stopped at 3rd, but Angel
ran up on Greg, forcing him to break home and get tagged out. Earl ran
for Rich at 2B. On Frank's grounder to Scaff, Earl broke for 3rd as soon
as Scaff threw, forcing Angel to break for home and get thrown out.
In the 7th, Deb from 2nd stopped at third on Steve's hit to right, but
Mitch sent her home, where the throw beat her easily.
- Play of the game: the first Gasp batter hit a high foul behind 3rd.
Tom leapt and reached over the fence to bring it down.
- Deb made two nice pivots on feeds from Frank to get 6-4-3 double plays
in the first and the third. Deb later had a nice catch of a pop up
behind 2nd base.
- Steve showed up late, which may have been fortunate in that he
capitalized on the runners on base in front of him for 5 rbis.
Greg tripled over the LF in the 1st. Brian Martin hit a two-run
homer in the 7th to bring Gasp within 2.
- In the Gasp 6th, Scaff hit a three-hopper through 3-4. Richard fielded
it and threw to a very vocal Steve covering at 1B for the second out.
After a couple more hits, the 2nd Gasp batter hit a hard shot up the
middle that clipped Jerry Clark in the heel for the last out.
- Sun balls: Tom at 3B and Angel in LF had about 6 balls go by them,
though Tom did field and throw many cleanly, and Angel caught a tough
ball in the 7th (from Cresto?) for a big out.

- David Johnson led off the third with a deep shot over Annie in RC, who was
playing at the burn line on Richard's advice. A few batters later, Gene hit
one to deep center that bounced along the fence toward the other field for
a 2-run home run.
- The Marinators' first inning finally ended when Robert Lucas lined a
single to center, and Richard threw to Brad in sneakers (since he showed
up late!) to get Gene going from first to third.
- The Marinators' second should have been scoreless, but Richard in LC lost
two consecutive balls in the twilight. The following inning, Tom in RF and
Richard switched positions.
- Richard's triple was a line drive lost by Shyam in LF that reached
blacktop. Shyam later made an excellent catch of Joe's liner in the 5th.
In the top of that inning, Joe had made an excellent catch of the second
lefty's sinking line drive in RC.
- Angel starred offensively. His triple went to LC? His home run one
hopped high off the opposing backstop in RC. His last single put the
Sharks on top for the first time in the game.
- Brad's triple reached blacktop in LC. Tom's home run to deep RC
broke the game open, though his fly out in the 2nd was hit harder.
- Frank had an excellent, solid game at SS, cleanly fielding every ball
despite the inconsistent dirt. The Marinators' 4th ended on a tough 6-3
double play where Frank barely got Fabiano at 2B and threw out Sonny at 1B.
- After Brad's personal cheering showed up late in the game, he
made two good assists from 3B, one that he backhanded and threw from
foul territory perfectly to Joe at 1B.

- Bad Newz played with 9. Bustos started the game in LF but pulled a
muscle during the game, weakening their defense further.
- Richard's home run landed left of the CF and died in the grass.
Angel's grand slam to deep right-center tied the game, bringing the
team back from its biggest deficit. After Steve's
double into the tree, Frank tripled to left for the go-ahead run.
- Gimpy Greg played a solid 3B, 1-for-2 on low rockets. Richard in LC
broke slowly on Steve Sanchez's texas leaguer and had to dive for
the catch in the 6th.
- Steve got another K. Angel fought the sun to catch at least two balls
just in front of the blacktop.
- No umpire. Batting team umped. Richard umped the second game, and
Rich umped the late game.

- Angel hit a good line drive up the middle in the 5th that skipped past
the LCF for a little league home run. Mitch nailed one to deep LC that
died in the grass for a legit homer, making up for showing up about
20 minutes late.
- The Diamond Cutters loaded the bases in the third with one out. Matt
Lievense smoked one down the first base line but close to Joe, who caught
the liner and stepped on first to end the inning. In the fifth with
runners on, Barron hit one to deep left-center that Greg ran down for
the final out of the inning.
- Gino got a ground ball past Deb in the 4th, but with the outfielders
deep, he beat it out for a triple. In the 6th he put an outside pitch
deep onto the blacktop, but in the 7th flew out for the 2nd out of the
inning.
