- Great hitting by Angel, Cleveland, Frank, and Steve, who went 13 for 13,
with only 1 or 2 cheap hits.
- Power came from Tom, who homered to center to close out the Sharks'
scoring, and especially Mitch,
who tripled onto the blacktop and homered to deep right center.
- Actually, the hardest hit ball of the day was Brad's line drive double
to center that hit the fence on the fly.
- A very rusty Rich made a month's worth of outs for him, the most
embarrassing of which was his called K on a 3-2 pitch. Both he and Deb
paid up at Round Table.
- Defensively, the third inning started with a nice catch of a line drive
by Joe in RC. Some batter reached, then Deb-Frank-Rich turned a
professional-looking 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.
- In the second, Mitch in RF caught a dying line drive then threw to Joe
at 1B for a double play to end the inning.
- The last inning began poorly, with the Toads scoring 6 before Steve
speared a line drive and threw to Rich for a double play. The last
out came on a good 10-6 assist from Annie to Frank to get the batter
trying to stretch a single.
- Round Table: Rich, Angel, Annie, Mario, Michael, Stephen, Frank, Tanne,
Tanne's mom van den bruckenheimersteitz, Madeline, Tom, Joe, Deb,
Steve, Richard. Both Rich and Deb paid up.

- Richard set the batting order based on order of appearance except for
himself, nursing some old man's skin. It worked out as Tom led off and did
not make an out, improving his OBP 60 points.
- Marinators played 6 men, 3 women, 1 kid in the dugout.
- All the deep hits came in the 5th: Steve's homer into the tree in left,
Angel's triple to deep RC, and
Cleveland's line drive homer onto the blacktop down the line.
- With Annie on first in the 1st, Angel crushed a ball up the middle, which
Robert Lucas somehow speared, then threw to first for the double play.
- After the Marinators scored 4 in the 1st, they led off with the top
of their order in the 2nd. After a single, Dave Tseng hit a good
line drive to right, but Joe caught it nicely, then doubled off Fabiano.
The next batter Brent smoked one even harder down first, but Joe caught
that one as well to end the inning.
- The other key defensive play came in the 3rd. With none out and runners
on first and second, Robert Lucas singled to left but expected the runner
from first to advance to third. Angel threw to Frank, who relayed to Joe
for the tag.
- For the other guys, Steve's L5 was an excellent catch by Curt, and
Tina Jameson laid out to dig a throw on a 5-3.
- Deb paid up on her beer at Round Table.

- Quite a few big hits: Angel's homer flew through the tree in dead
center and landed over the fence to stretch our lead from 2 to 5.
Section 8 trimmed the lead before Annie's hit in the 4th pushed our lead
from 2 to 4, and Becky singled with two out to push the lead to 5 and keep
the inning alive. Finally, Frank's double to deep center in the 5th
put the game out of reach.
- Frank also tripled to the tree in left, and Brad had an important
triple in the first onto the blacktop.
- In the fourth, Richard in LC got burned and had to play the bounce off
the tree. He short-hopped his throw to Frank, who short-hopped his throw
to Steve but still got the batter going for home. With two out in the
inning, Mitch dropped a high fly but threw to Brad coming out for the
relay from 2B, who surprisingly threw to Frank at 2B to get the batter
before the runner from first crossed home.
- Play of the game was Cleveland's game ender. With 1 out in the last
inning, the bater hit a rocket down the third base line. Cleveland
speared it and threw to 2nd to get the runner who had assumed a hit.
- The Section8 play of the game came from the slightly built
catcher who ran 25 feet up the third base line to catch Brad's
foul pop-up in the 4th.
- Earl forgot about the game after two Purdue losses. Brad showed up
just before the first pitch, and Mitch arrived late in the inning.
Round Table: Angel, Stacy, Steve, Joe, Becky, Frank, and Earl, late again.
Good turnout thanks to the 2nd (and last) 5:30 game of the season.

- Mitch had the shot of the day, a solid homer over RC to give us the
lead for good. Steve's homer hit high on the left-field tree, one pitch
after a close foul ball off the tree down the left-field line.
- Cleveland pitched, as Steve arrived after the ump started the game
two minutes early. He struck out the #6 batter (Chris?) in the
first, then the new Mauler in the 6th. Of course, he gave one back in
the 6th, as did Earl and Tom. Cleveland also brought back the tremendous
reflexes, especially on the game-ending ground out.
- Frank played very good D at SS, though two balls nearly hit him
in the face on bad hops. Frank nicely caught Adrian's solid liner over
his left shoulder, and twice went deep into the 5-6 hole for assists.
- Round Table: Annie, Mario, Stephen, Michael, Richard, Tom, Frank, Joe,
Earl.

- Diamond Cutters had the top of their order up in the bottom of the 7th.
With 1 run in, one out, and Marcus on first, Matt hit a dying looper down
the right field line. Marcus was already at 3B when Joe ran down the
ball, then threw to 1B for the game-ending DP.
- With the bases loaded and one out in the 6th, Steve fielded a comebacker,
threw to Earl at C for the force, who then relayed to Brad at 1B for the
DP. Richard-Deb-Brad turned a 6-4-3 DP in the 3rd to end that inning.
In the 4th, Brad at 1B nicely fielded a sharply hit grounder, threw to
Richard at SS coming across the bag, but then Richard went too far and
body slammed Mike Hernandez, who won that collision.
- Brad's and Angel's homers got blacktop while Steve's got tree.
Every one was needed, though Angel's provided the final runs of the day.
Tom and Richard both had important two-run singles, each of which put
us ahead temporarily.
- On a hard double by Steve in the first, Angel was cleanly thrown out
at home, Marcus to Ken Lawrence. In the 6th, Earl missed 3B while
running for home, stopped and went back to find Tom there, and was
tagged out.

- Richard misplayed a liner to right on the first IP batter of the 2nd.
With about 6 runs in and a runner on 3rd, Steve fielded a grounder and
looked the runner back but then threw to Earl at 3B too late. Later
with runners on first and second, Steve fielded another comebacker and
threw to a surprised Deb at 2B, who dropped the ball. With
about 12 runs in, two out, and the bases loaded, Tom played very shallow
and got burned by a line drive for a grand slam. But generally, IP
hit very, very well that inning.
- Cleveland pitched innings 3-6 with Richard at SS, who played very
well there.
- Though down 20-4 and then 26-8, we kept chipping away and chipping away
but ran out of innings. One big play was a good line drive up the middle
by Earl in the fifth that the 2B somehow speared and then ran to 2B for
the inning-ending double play. Another was Steve's liner to the leaping
LF in the 7th that otherwise would have landed on the blacktop.
- Annie hit like a beast, and Richard and Angel reached base safely
every time. On Steve's double high into the tree down the LF line,
Angel broke late but still had a good shot at home. The throw beat
him there, but the pitcher tagged him with an empty glove while
bobbling the ball against his chest.
- Richard's triple went to dead center and scooted between the outfielders.
Brad's triple reached blacktop. Angel's homer gapped RF and RC. Steve's
and Tom's homers got tree in LF. Cleveland's triple died along the fence
in LC. Ted Betley put one over the LF fence in the 2nd, and mishit
one onto the blacktop in LC in the 3rd.

- Star #1: Angel. In the 3rd, Angel homered high into the left
field tree to tie the game, and in the 6th, he hit a towering shot over
the center field fence on a pitch the umpire called "illegal".
- Star #2: Gimpy Brad got the go-ahead rbi
in the 3rd and a 2-rbi triple in the 4th, both of which rolled onto the
blacktop.
- Star #3 (feel-good tie): Mitch, Steve, Annie, and Tom all had 3 hits.
Tom ran a deep line drive to left center that died in the grass into a
home run. Steve tripled to right-center, while Cleveland tripled to
left-center. Richard homered deep to right-center.
- Toads had only 6 men, 3 women: Sonny, Seal, Barr, Maddock, Holly,
Jim, Charlie, Kelly, Suzy. Steve held them without an extra-base hit.
- The Toad first could have been much worse, but with none out, 1 in,
and runners on first and third, Brad at 3B fielded Maddock's grounder
and threw to Joe at 1B for the out, then Joe threw home to Annie to
get Seal, who broke home on Brad's throw.
- Deb and Steve made a good 4-1 putout in the third on a grounder between
Joe and Deb. Steve-Frank-Joe also turned a nice 1-6-3 double play in
the 5th. Cleveland threw one ball low to Joe but more than made up for
it by snaring Sonny's rocket in the 6th and assisting on a sharply hit
grounder to his left. Joe also caught a bullet after Sonny's liner.
- Go Angels! Rount Table: Rich, Tom, Frank, Joe, Emily, Steve, Richard,
Earl.

- After committing about 3 errors at 2B in the 5th, Joe turned a sweet
double play in the 6th. With runners on first and second and none out,
Frank cleanly fielded a ball toward the middle and underhanded a ball
to Joe, who barehanded it and threw a one-hopper to Steve at 1B for
the double play.
- Cleveland pitched, as Steve arrived late. Richard played 3B/C, while
Steve played 2B/1B, switching with Joe. Subbing on <1 day's notice,
Tony played RF, and Becky played C/RC.
- Joe's triple went down the 3B line past LF. Richard's triple went

- Key play of the game came in the 3rd. With runners on first and second,
Tom smoked a ball at Ed Lovato's feet. The ump called it no catch but not
loudly enough, so Frank ran to second, then ran back to first where Tom
had already reached.
- Another tough double play came in the last inning, where Deb hit a good
grounder deep into the 5-6 hole. Lovato threw to John Boyte, who barely
got Tom at 2B, then relayed to Stephanie Sharp to get Deb. Fortunately,
Cleveland followed that with a clutch home run to tie the game, but
Richard hesitated and popped up on the infield to strand Earl.
- Darrell Duley grazed Steve's ear on a rocket up the middle in the 3rd.
Cleveland pitched the sixth and seventh for a change of pace. He got
through the top of the order cleanly, but Steve Guzman singled to lead
off the 7th, and Laverne brought him home with a deep double over Angel
in LF.
- Richard's home run went over Tom Elliott in RC. Cleveland's homer
went to dead center and rolled along the fence. Brad's triple was a
laser to left center, and Angel's triple went to center.
- Brad had a nice dig at 1B on a throw from Cleveland at 3B in the 4th.
Frank and Deb played good, solid D up the middle, as did Cleveland
at 3B before he pitched.

- Very nice two-out rallies in the 5th and 6th.
- Welcome back to Cleveland.
- Angel's triple, a deep ball to center that hit the tree, finally
put us ahead. Steve's homer was the shortest legit homer
possible, a ball that rattled around the left-field tree, then landed behind
the charging left fielder.
- Richard in LC threw to Cleveland at 3B for the first out of the 2nd
inning. Brad gave that miscue back by drawing the 3B's attention on
Mitch's infield grounder in the 4th but straying too far off third.
- Frank and Joe played very solid D at SS and 1B. Joe also had a heads-up
play on offense as he scored on Cleveland's hit when the infield paid
him no attention.
- Round Table: Tom, Frank, Annie, Joe, Mario, Stephen, Michael, Richard
