- First inning: with a runner on first and 1 out, Steve got Ed Lovato
to ground into a 1-6-3 double play.
- Second: Brad had to hold up on Deb's looper to center and was actually
heading back to second when the ball fell.
- Third: Steve made another good play to end the inning, knocking a
ball down toward 1B, then tagging out the runner just before the bag.
Offensively, the hits just poured forth. With the bases loaded, Steve
hit a hard double off the tree, and Tom from first blew through Richard's
stop sign at 3B to score off an errant throw. After a walk to Rich,
Angel ripped a ball to Lovato at deep short. Lovato threw to Jon Boyte
at 2B for the force, who then made a beautiful turn to get Angel
going full speed down the line.
- Fourth: Steve struck out Laverne Guzman looking on a low, deep pitch.
Laverne seemed to forget that the count started at 1-1. However, Swatm
followed with their own string of hits, at least two of which were
tough grounders that Steve knocked down but couldn't convert.
The ump also called a batter safe, which we though incorrect, on a
throw from Frank at SS that Angel at 1B dug nicely.
- Fifth: Swatm closed the gap some more, but with runners on first
and third and one out, Joe in RC caught a line drive and threw home.
Steve cut the throw and threw to Rich at 1B, who tagged out the
runner who had slipped trying to get back to first. On the other
side, Steve Guzman made two good stops of hard hit balls for the
first two outs, then Steve hit a high rocket off his glove for a double.
- Sixth: Deb, after picking up three more bruises including a rocket
off her forearm and ab, made a good stop on a grounder to her right.
Her throw short hopped Rich at 1B, who made an equally good dig to end
the inning. Offensively, Angel just got under his shot at a home run,
while Greg nailed his triple over Steve Bustos onto the blacktop.
- Seventh: Jon Boyte doubled to drive in two runs with one out.
The next batter lined one to Brad, who made a good high backhand catch.
Steve pitched the next batter tough and walked him to bring up
Sharon Kim, who popped out to Joe in RC on a 3-2 pitch.
- Swatm may have had more hits, but we strung ours together
and held on.
- Frank changed his flight schedule to Florida for the MER launch
to make the game. Earl accepted a free ticket and a $300 voucher
from Northwest to miss the game. It all worked out.
- Late postgame celebration at Round Table for the Sharks' first
undefeated season: Tom, Steve, Rich, Greg, Frank, Annie
& team Zavala, Brad, Richard, and Joe.

- Game was played in a light drizzle. The scoring in the third inning may
be wrong since the scorebook got wet and could not be written on.
- Steve's and Brad's triples were line drives to left-center. Tom's triple
went down the right-field line and skidded away from the right-fielder.
Brad's homer beat Dave Seal in LC, but the wet grass stopped the ball
before getting to the blacktop. Richard's home run beat the RF. Good
hitting throughout the order. Seal went 4 for 4 against us.
- On a relayed throw to the plate in the first, Frank nailed Kim
Bonfiglio in the "hip". In the second, Richard ended the Marinators'
inning with a diving catch of David Johnson's line drive over 2B.
Earlier in the inning with the bases loaded and none out, Steve struck
out the batter swinging, then Annie threw to Rich at 1B for the softball
version of the strike-em-out, throw-em-out DP.
- In the 4th, Mario hit a tough grounder between first and second. Mike
Wilson from first fielded the ball, then threw to Shonte Wright at 1B,
who had sprinted over from 2B.
- Game ended on Steve's striking out Shonte swinging.
- Angel wrenched his surgically repaired knee.
- Joe had some launch to support.
- Jerry Clark of Last Gasp called to say his team couldn't field
enough players as 8 are disabled, including himself (broken wrist
from their last game).

- Angel in the first and Steve in the 4th took advantage of overthrows to
score. Conversely, Angel got thrown out by 15 feet at home plate to end
the fourth, and Rich on second base got tagged out by SS Fabiano Oyafuso,
who then threw to complete the double play in the 2nd.
- Defensively, the Sharks ended the loooong 4th inning with an odd double
play. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Cindee Dlugos hit a good single to
score one, but Frank made an excellent relay to Joe at C to get the runner
from second. Joe then threw to Deb at 2B to get Cindee advancing on the
throw.
- In the Spaceballs' 3rd, Fabiano and Scott Vanderzyl executed a
run-and-hit to score Fabiano from first on a single to center.
Spaceballs hit solidly all game.
- The Spaceballs' third basemen hit a triple to the deepest part of left
center in the 4th, then crushed one off the left-center field fence for
an important home run in the 7th.
- Deb got another automatic double play in the 2nd when the runner from
first (the Spaceballs' catcher) did not slide or avoid going into second.
- Steve, Rich, Angel, Annie, and Joe hit great, especially Angel who
was crushing the
ball. However, offensive star of the day was Brad, who crushed line
drives every time without making an out.
- Deb had the hit of the day, a solid single in the last inning to bring
the tying run up to the plate. After a good play by Dave Tseng in RC to
get Earl out, Richard hit a line drive over 1B that got under the RF's
glove for a home run. Steve, who earlier tripled to right, then
turned a single into a double on a liner where the LCF was playing very
deep. Rich advanced the runner on a fly to RC, then Angel hit a one-hop
rocket up the middle that Fabiano speared but could not throw cleanly to
first.
- Tanne joined Frank, Richard, Steve, Rich, Greg, Brad, Joe, and Earl
for some late pizza at Round Table. Best wishes to Tom and his family.

- Trooper of the day: Annie, for playing despite a pack-a-day cough.
- Trooper of the day 2: Deb, for playing through a suh-weet bruise from
last week.
- Feeding frenzy - the first time through the order was nothing but
line drives.
- Matt Lievense hit a 2-run homer in the first that went off Richard's
glove. After ken Lawrence's hit, Gino crushed a tremendously deep ball
that two-hopped to the right-field fence.
- Angel made an excellent diving catch of a low, hard-hit line drive in
the 4th, with another good catch on the next batter.
- Steve snared another good line drive up the middle, while Tom at 3B
caught an even harder ball from the #1 hitter in the 7th.
- Angel crushed a line-drive to dead center in the 5th that the LCF
ran down. After Greg's rocket off the third basemen, Rich hit a towering
shot to left/left-center that LCF ran down as well.
- Tom just got his head out of the way of a bad-hop ground ball, while
Greg got flummoxed by a line drive that hit the edge of the outfield
grass and bounded 15 feet up.
- Man on a roll: Steve went 5 for 5 with a triple to lower his slugging
percentage 50 points.
- Steve's triple was a hard grounder down the 3B line, Richard's
home run was a slicing line drive to center, Joe's triple reached
blacktop in left-center, and Tom's homer was a line drive that froze
the RCF.

- Batting order was determined by who needed swings the most. The field
manager was ready to shoot himself after the second out in the second.
- Ump Yours only had 8, but Adrian Salazar, after checking with us,
got Laverne to play.
- Richard's first home run was over the center fielder, who was playing
very shallow. His second home run was to right-center. Angel's game-ender
went to deep center.
- Brad pounded the ball for three triples, each onto the blacktop, then
two sharp singles. Greg
also went out-less, while Tom had reached base safely 9 straight times
before grounding out in the second.
- Deb made an excellent stop of a bad-hop ball to get the batter. Frank
almost did the same but had more trouble getting a grip on the ball.
- Greg also made an excellent defensive play. The at-bat after the #4
batter hit a blacktop triple through the left-field tree, he pounded one to
deep left-center, which Greg broke perfectly for and caught backhanded
over his shoulder.
- Brad and Deb made good on their strikeouts on the day by buying a
pitcher of beer each.
- Steve struck out the #5 batter looking in the 6th. He also had many
Cleveland-esque stops of sharply hit balls up the middle throughout
the doubleheader.

- Very nice catch by Darrell Duley on Brad's line drive in the 4th, which
would otherwise have landed on the blacktop.
- Richard's triple was down the right-field line. The umpire awarded
Richard home after the right fielder threw his glove at the ball.
- With one out in the 6th(?), Mike Guzman on first, Laverne Guzman hit a
hard ground ball to Frank at SS, who threw to Deb at 2B to easily get the
runner, who came in standing up. The umpire
called the automatic double play, about which the runner stated that he
had a right to the basepath.
- Deb took a hard throw from Angel off the shin and a hard hit ground
ball off the inner thigh.
- Steve's triple was a deep fly to left-center. His one
out came on a very hard ground ball well fielded by Steve Guzman.
- On Brad's deep fly to left in the 7th, Tom took third, but Ed Lovato
at SS slipped when fielding the relay, allowing Tom to score.

- Tom starred offensively by batting 1.000, including a home run to
right-center and a bases-loaded two-run single that gave us the lead
for good.
- Everybody scored at least once, and we drew 6 walks.
- Deb's bases-loaded two-run single in the 5th was the back-breaker.
- Richard's triple reached the blacktop in left-center, and Brad's triple
plowed through the tree down the left field line.
- Richard and Mario scored from second and third respectively on Brad's
fly to deep left. Apparently, the left-fielder thought he had caught
the third out.
- Annie circled the bases on her single in the 6th when the defense
let the ball roll around after an overthrow or two.
- Cleveland struck out the #2 hitter in the 1st inning and the #5 hitter
in the 3rd.
- With no outs and runners on first and second, Tom fielded a big fat
Greek hop at 3B, touched the bag, and threw to Joe at 1B for the double
play.
- With no outs and a runner on first, Richard caught a line drive to
center and threw to Joe at 1B for the double play.
- All three outs in the last inning were grounders to Cleveland at P,
who probably had three other assists in the game.
- Though no batter's box was drawn, the ump called a Stepkid out for
hitting out of the box in the sixth inning with no outs, runners on
first and third. Though the guy flew out and the runner on third
later scored, the Stepkids complained about that call for the
remaining inning and a half+.

right-center.

- Steve's first home run sailed over the tree down the left-field line,
well onto the blacktop.
- However, Super Mario came up with the biggest hit of the game, a triple
down the right-field line to score two and give us a decent margin.
- Annie also smacked the ball well all day. Team Zavala: 7 for 9.
- Steve struck someone out, nearly avenging Angel's tremendous swinging K
in the first (1-year layoff) and Tom's borderline called strike three.
- Double plays: someone lined to Richard at 2B, who threw to Joe at 1B to
double off Richard Walker. With a runner on first, Robert Lucas grounded
to Brad at SS, who gunned to Richard at 2B, who wheeled and threw to Joe.
- Defensive play of the game probably goes to Mike Wilson in LC for
Marinatos, who made an over the shoulder catch to his right on Greg's fly
in the 7th. Brad did make four or five solid plays at SS, Joe scooped
probably two tough throws at 1B, and Steve speared a liner up the middle
Richard and Steve got a nice 4-1 putout.
- Thanks to Suzy and Mario for subbing. Rich showed up near the end of
the game, gimpy but cheerful. Special guest star Nancy Carr, and
guest stars Michael and Steven Zavala.
