After another hit by LaVerne Guzman, Richard in LC threw the ball into the stands behind 1B.
5th inning: Rich nicely dug out a throw from Frank.
Last inning: Darrell Duley singled to right. Tom made a diving, head-first catch of Jon Boyte's low line drive. Ed Lovato hit a hard grounder up the middle that Dave deflected perfectly to Frank, who stepped on second and threw to first for the double play.
Dave killed the ball on offense but his gimpy knees limited him to doubles.
2-team playoff.

How did Greg get on base in the first?
After Deb and Frank tagged to 2nd and 3rd on Richard's fly out, Rich hit a good single to score both and tie the game.
Dave got a big strikeout of Steve Bustos with 1 out and 2 on in the 3rd.
Richard in RF caught a line drive down the line from the Swatm RCF, then threw to Frank at SS to nail Steve Guzman tagging from first.
Ed Lovato had some key hits to RF for Swatm. LaVerne Guzman burned Tom twice, once to his left, once over his head.
This game won the regular season for Swatm.
Brad hopped one onto the blacktop in the first. Richard beat Bustos in RF for a home run in the 2nd.

Last inning: Brad lined a single to center. Deb grounded to Karen Russo at 2B, who threw to the SS covering at 2B, but Brad beat the throw. Tom then grounded one through the middle for the game winner.
Brad's triple was a low rocket down the left field line that actually landed on the blacktop according to Brian Martin in LF. However, the ump called it a triple, and none of the Sharks thought to ask.
Gasp 5th: Brian on second, Bill Almassy grounded to the pitcher. Cleveland threw to Brad for the rundown and then forgot to cover third, allowing Brian to take that base after Brad threw back to second.
Gasp 5th: runners on 2nd and 3rd, 1 out, fly ball to Joe in right. Joe lined himself up, then threw the ball about 20 feet and killed a worm or two.
Brad speared a backhand liner in the first for the first out, but threw one into RF later after deciding to throw to 1B instead of 2B on a grounder.
Gasp 4th: Richard unsuccessfully tried to throw out Charlene Ching and Robin Cresto at 1B on hits to center but did get Pat McLane to end the inning.
Gasp 3rd: Brian Martin on 3B, sharp grounder to Brad, who threw to Chris at 1B for the out. Chris then threw to Scott Galloway covering 3B as Brian broke for home and scored.
Shark 1st: Rich grounded to SS, who threw to Karen at 2B to force Richard, who slid hard and broke up the double play. Craig Leff tried that unsuccessfully in the top of the inning on the Cleveland/Scott/Chris double play.

Richard's home run to left-left-center got past the outfielder then died in the tall grass.
Rich has 14 straight hits or walks.
Before his meaningless out in the last inning, Frank had 15 straigh hits or walks.

Diamond Cutters were supposed to be home, but they volunteered to hit first, hoping that their second woman would show up. That never happened, which was a factor in Rich's homer to right-center and Richard's homer to right.
Cleveland pitched after Steve showed up late.
Matt Lievense hit a line drive home run to right/right-center in the second.
Good sign #1: batters 2-5 had 16 plate appearances, 15 hits, 1 walk, 16 runs scored.
Good sign #2: worst batter of the day was Richard, 1 for 3 plus a walk.
Steve hit the lower right part of the tree for his home run.

Second inning: Tom picked up Rich with a key hit to tie the game, then scored from first on Richard's single to right. Richard scored from first on Deb's infield hit that was thrown into right field after Richard collided with 2B. After Orlando's hit, Nancy smacked the biggest hit of the game, a 2-out single to pick up runners on second and third.
Greg nailed a ball that rolled to within a yard of the blacktop, Richard signalled for him to go for the home run, but a perfect relay by Fabiano from the outfield grass to the pitcher covering got him at the plate.
First inning defense: after the first two batters reached base, Greg raced back and to his left for an over-the-shoulder catch. Next batter lined one between Greg and Frank with Frank making a last second stab and catch that again had the runners scrambling to get back to base.
After the Reckless pitcher hit a sharp one past Deb, Richard fielded the ball on one-hop and got him at first. Later on, Richard gave that back and more by getting burned by Fabiano for a home run and dropping a very catchable ball in the seventh. Fortunately, later in the inning, Frank from SS raced back to catch a looper to end the game.
With the bases loaded, Reckless scored their first run on a bad throw that rolled around the infield. The runner from second then tried to score, but Steve picked up the ball and threw to Annie for the tag at home to end the inning.
Great hitting by Rich and Frank, who took over the team lead in hitting.

Deb-Frank-Chris turned a 4-6-3 double play on a sharp grounder by Dave Scaff. There was another double play later in the game.
Near the end of the game, Annie tried to pick off Brian Martin on first base. The throw skipped below Chris's glove, so Brian took off for second. However, Richard in RF fielded the ball cleanly and threw to Frank for the tag out.
On a ball hit down the 3B line, Brad eschewed the barehand stab and actually fielded it backhanded.
Good hitting in the first to tie the game, then a nice triple to right from Tom for the lead in the second.
Deb showed up a bit sick in the middle of the first, by which time Nancy had already been drafted. Orlando showed up a bit lectured to in the last inning, then promptly hit a 10-foot ground ball for a hit.
Steve's homer hit the bottom part of the tree in left-center.
Brad: rbi hit in every at-bat. Chris drove him in twice with sacrifice flies.

Double plays: Cleveland caught a low line-drive and doubled off Tom Elliott at 1B. Rich hit a 1-hopper to the left of the shortstop, who forced Scott at 2B and threw to 1B for the easy DP. Greg hit a smash down the line that Jon Boyte backhanded cleanly, threw to Tom Elliott to get Rich, then relayed to 1B.
Huge hit by Tom in the 4th to drive in two.
Breaks pro: SS rushed his throw on Richard's infield single in the first, followed soon after by LC badly misplaying Scott's ball.
Breaks con: Steve lost a line-drive in the left-field sun in the second, scoring two on the triple, with that runner later scoring. After a nice turn by Orlando, Rich dropped the back end of a double play throw. Lynn had a rough first inning at 2B before moving to C.

The Marinators were missing their regular pitcher. Their sub walked 7, 5 of whom scored.
Steve's 5-for-5 day picked up his OBP by 150 points. He also caught a hard, low liner up the middle in the third.
Nancy Carr almost played for us since Deb and Annie arrived a little late.
Richard made a Salmon-ish slide/catch on a ball hit over 2B.
Deb made a nice turn on a potential double play, but Rich at 1B couldn't handle the change-up.
Annie drew a walk to avoid stranding Brad at 3B but got picked off.
Deb bought beer at Round Table.

Richard's first home run hit the dirt in right-center. The second was caught by a basketball player. Greg's went to deep center.
The Mauler lefty crushed one to dead center that landed near the fence.
Good two-out rallies in the 4th and 5th. Tom had an excellent at bat in the 5th: hard foul, hard foul, poke up the middle.
